Why are blank lines at the start and end always removed?
They are never part of the content, so this step has no switch. Every other step can be turned off.
What counts as a blank line?
A line that is empty or has only spaces and tabs. Trailing spaces are removed first, so those lines become empty.
Why is "Collapse repeated spaces" off by default?
It's the one step that can change text you meant to keep, like indentation in code. The other steps only remove whitespace nobody wants.
Which line ending does the output use?
LF (\n) when "Normalize line endings" is on. Windows (CRLF) and old Mac (CR) endings are converted.
