Questions

Can it convert every timestamp in a log at once?

Yes. Paste several lines and each Unix timestamp (seconds or milliseconds, from 2001 to 2100) gets its UTC date added in brackets. Switch to Date → Timestamp to do the reverse for ISO 8601 dates.

How does it know seconds from milliseconds?

By size. Seconds stay under 100 billion until the year 2286. Milliseconds for the same dates start at 1 trillion, so there's no overlap.

Why does a date with no Z give a different result?

"2024-01-15T10:30:00" with no Z or offset is read in your local time zone. Add Z for UTC, or an offset like +09:00.

What about the year 2038 problem?

It doesn't affect this page. The 2038 problem is for systems that store time in a 32-bit signed integer, which runs out at 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038.

Does it count leap seconds?

No, and neither does Unix time. Unix time treats every day as 86,400 seconds.

Can I convert a date before 1970?

Yes. Dates before 1970 have negative timestamps, and both directions accept them.
