Questions
What's the difference between v4 and v7?
A v4 is 122 random bits. A v7 starts with a millisecond timestamp, so newer ones sort after older ones. That makes v7 better for database keys, because inserts stay in order.
Can it tell me when a UUID was created?
For v1, v6 and v7, yes. Paste the UUID into the field instead of a number. A v4 has no time in it.
Are these UUIDs cryptographically random?
Yes. The random bits come from the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), not Math.random.
Can two UUIDs ever collide?
In theory yes, but you'd need to make about 2.7 quintillion v4 UUIDs to have a 50% chance of one collision.
Why is the limit 1,000 at a time?
So the page stays fast. Generate again if you need more.
