Questions
How are the schemes made?
By turning the hue around the color wheel and keeping saturation and lightness: 180° for complementary, 30° either side for analogous, 120° steps for triadic, 150° and 210° for split complementary, and 90° steps for tetradic.
Which scheme should I use?
Analogous feels calm and safe. Complementary gives the strongest contrast, good for one accent. Triadic and tetradic are lively, so let one color lead and use the others sparingly.
Are these colors accessible together?
Not by default: two colors at the same lightness have low contrast. Check any text and background pair with the Contrast Checker before you use it.
What color formats can I type?
Hex, rgb(), hsl() and oklch(), the same as the Color Converter. Click a swatch to copy its hex value.
